March REC Meeting Update

The March REC meeting enjoyed two speakers. One was representing the Martin County Sherriff's Office who brought us up to speed. The good news is crime in contained; the bad news is that recorded accidents are increasing.

No doubt this fact is boosted by the building boom currently taking place in both Martin County and the City of Stuart are undergoing.

The next speaker addressed recent bills Tallahassee is facing and the implications to Martin County. Bill SB 102 is not a “free market” one, even though it passed 40-0 in Florida Senate. It promotes more development and increased density in an area saturated to the breaking point as far as traffic, crowded schools (which slipped from A to B), beaches, need for more fire/police, etc. The hope is that the House will reject it.

The second prevents counties from passing legislation on water quality, pollution control, and so forth.

The consensus among those present was to contact our legislators and voice our opinion.

        Governor Ron DeSantis 850 488 7146

        Senator Gayle Harrell 772 221 4019

        Rep. Toby Oberdorf 772 221 4961

        Rep. John Snyder 772 210 5626

This is commentary from our members, it is not the offiical position of the Martin County Republican Executive Committee.
